Intellectual Property Rights (IPR's) and its Commercialization
About the event - Department of Biotechnology, School of Applied Sciences in Association with University Industry Interaction Centre , REVA University Organized Expert Lecture on "Intellectual Property Rights (IPR's) and its Commercialization" on 9th March, 2023 from 9.30 am to 11.30 am BSc final year students and MSc students of the Biotechnology Department, School of Applied Sciences. The expert talk was split into two session.
The first resource person for the day was Arshiya Ambreen, Corporate Executive & Trainer, REVA University. The session emphasized on the basics of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR's) which included the fundamentals in patenting. A detailed explanation on the various types of IPR's gave a clarity on the, patents, GI, Trade marks, Trade secrets and Copyrights. The session included positive brainstorming with exclusive interaction with the students. As an outcome of the session, the students got the idea of the basics of IPR and patenting design.
The second resource person for the expert lecture was Sridhar R, Senior Associate, K and S Partners. The session mainly focused upon the criteria's to be fulfilled for patent filing and the process involved. Various examples of patents in the field of Biotechnology and Life science were discussed. Few examples and case studies was the highlight of the expert talk, which was relatable and better understanding. The students got a clarity on the eligibility for patent filing and different patent laws in India and around the globe.

Out Come of the Session- The students have a fair knowledge on IP, Types of IP and are able to comprehend on Patentable and non-patentable invention in the field of bio-technology. They have a fair knowledge on Prior Art and Forms required for filing a patent application. The students have a reasonable knowledge on patent laws in India and around the globe.
